Management & Intrapreneurship: Competing for Business Excellence
In March 2009 AUB introduced an
integrative business simulation class in which teams of MBA students and EMBA executives
competed in simulation of a fiercely competitive market moderated and
supervised by Dr. Sajay Samuel, Professor, Penn State
University. Three teams in MBA and six teams in EMBA competed in a very
competitive atmosphere.
The course had two objectives: to instill integrative
management skills and to foster the spirit of intrapreneurship. Students had to
manage a $100 million manufacturing company and had to work across business
functions to develop an enterprise-wide view of business. They worked in
cross-functional teams in order to experience the benefits of diverse
perspectives and thereby enrich their appreciation for the enterprise-wide
effects of business decisions.
Participants were tasked with running their companies in a highly
competitive space to kindle the spirit of the intrapreneurship.
Each team produced a “Shareholders’ Report” and presented
their performance in the simulation to a panel of judges formed of three CEOs namely: Mr. Fawzi Farah, CFH, Mr. Fouad Es
Said, Transmed & Mr. Riad
Obegi, BEMO Bank who evaluated the three finalist
competing teams. The session was held at AUB on Saturday, April 4 at the
Bathish auditorium in West Hall from 4:30-6:30 pm.
A prize of $2000 was awarded to the
top performers from the EMBA teams who scored first among 1000 participating
teams worldwide and $1000 for the runners up from the MBA teams who came third
among the 1000 participating teams worldwide.
The Olayan School of Business is
